THE OFFICE
Eventually, we arrived at what seemed to be an office sector. It was quiet, eerily so.
The office space appeared frozen in time, as if the employees had vanished in the midst of their daily routines. Papers littered the desks, computer monitors flickered sporadically, and abandoned coffee cups sat forgotten on the edge of desks. It was a scene straight out of a dystopian nightmare.
Despite the desolation, there was an underlying sense of purpose to the space. With the scenes of the horrific experiments still fresh in my mind, I thought of how anyone on the outside didn't know. They not only did those horrific things, but also protected eachother, hiding crimes from the world.
We moved cautiously through the maze of cubicles, our footsteps echoing in the empty space. Each corner turned revealed more of the abandoned workspace, a haunting reminder of the darkness that lurked within the facility.
Maude's sharp eyes scanned the room, searching for any signs of information. I followed closely behind, still fascinated by her resilience.
Amidst the clutter and chaos, Maude spotted a blinking icon on one of the computer screens. We approached cautiously, unsure of what to expect.
You found something? I asked, peering over her shoulder.
Maude's brow furrowed as she examined the display. Looks like some sort of ping, and it looks like it's coming from below... could it be...?
Maude shook her head, like she was stopping her mind from thinking about it further. Could be a trap, she continued. But we won't know unless we investigate.
What is it? I asked.
No. She answered sharply, with no room for negotiation.
She was hiding something. But, getting that information out of Maude would be like taking a cub from it's mother 一 not worth the consequences.
After a short pause, we came to a silent agreement to follow the clue. We had come this far, and turning back now wasn't an option.
